SIRI provides an abstract model of common public transport concepts and data structures that enables the exchange of information on transport operations between different computer systems. SIRI was established as European standard in October 2006. It is a CEN (European Committee for Standardisation) Technical Standard.
SIRI is complementary to the other European data standards Transmodel and NetEX. Together, they aim to reduce the fragmentation of data standards in the EU and harmonise them.
To simplify and advance the use of these data standards in Europe, in 2020 the DATA4PT project was launched. The main objectives of DATA4PT consist of technical and organisational activities to facilitate the development and deployment of the European public transport data standards Transmodel, NeTEx and SIRI.
